Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health

Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, periodical e-journal published 3 times a year by Sakarya University Faculty of Health Sciences.

The journal includes scientific articles in the fields of nursing, midwifery, medical sciences, sports sciences and health management. SAUHSD, an academic journal, aims to contribute to the knowledge in the field of health sciences by publishing studies of national and international scientific quality and value.In the focus and scope of Sakarya University Holistic Health Journal, clinical and experimental original research articles in the field of health are given priority, and current articles such as review articles, case reports, letters to the editor are published in Turkish and English.
The evaluation process of the articles sent to the journal is carried out with the principle of double-blind refereeing.

Writing Rules

WRITING GUIDELINES FOR HOLISTIC HEALTH JOURNAL

General Rules and Formatting Features
• Articles submitted for publication must not have been previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere.
• Necessary corrections regarding writing rules are made by the editor or reviewers, and feedback is provided to the author.
• In articles returned for revision, changes cannot be made beyond the requests of the reviewers and the editor.
• Articles that do not comply with the writing rules cannot be published.
• No fee is paid to the authors for articles published in the journal.
• The responsibility for the articles published in the journal rests with the authors.
• Articles should be written in Microsoft Word, using Times New Roman font, 12-point size, justified text, and 1.5 line spacing.
• The page layout of the article should have a 2.5 cm margin on all sides (right, left, bottom, top), and all pages should be numbered with the page number centered.
• Numbers within the text should be written out if between "1-9" and as Arabic numerals if "10 and above." A period should be used for decimal numbers (e.g., 9.41).
• The main title of the article should be 14-point, in uppercase and bold, while subheadings should be 12-point, with the first letter capitalized, bold, and left-aligned.
• Abbreviations should not be used in the title or abstract. Abbreviations used within the text should be spelled out in full the first time they appear, followed immediately by the abbreviation in parentheses.

Title Page
Author information should be presented on the title page. This page should include the article title, the names and affiliations of the authors, and their contact information (email, phone number, and fax number). If the article was presented at a congress or symposium, this should be indicated as a footnote on the title page.

Abstract
The abstract should be a maximum of 250 words, written in both Turkish and English, and presented along with the article title in both languages. No abbreviations or references should be used in this section. Abstracts of research articles should include the sections "Aim, Method, Results, Conclusion," while review articles and case reports should be organized to fully reflect the general content. Below the abstract, 3 to 6 keywords should be listed, separated by commas. Turkish keywords should comply with "Türkiye Bilim Terimleri" and English keywords with "Index Medicus: Medical Subject Heading (MeSH)" standards.

Main Text
The main text section of research articles should consist of "Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations, References" sections, and only the initial letter of the section titles should be capitalized and bold. The word count in this section (including references and tables) should be between 1500-4000.
The main text section of review articles should consist of headings related to the subject and references. Each title should be written in bold. Review articles should be prepared to cover current literature in health-related fields. It is especially preferred that the author has published publications on that subject.
The main text section of case reports should consist of the headings "Introduction, Case Report, Discussion, References". Each title should be written in bold.

Ethical Guidelines
The Declaration of Helsinki Principles must be followed in all research involving the human element. Authors must state in the materials and methods section of the article that the research was conducted according to ethical principles. The authors' compliance of the articles with ethical rules is the authors' responsibility.

Figures, Images, Tables, and Graphs
It should be given in the flow of the article, and each picture, table, and graphic should be numbered and referred to at the end of the relevant sentence.
For clear printing, figures, pictures/photographs should be uploaded as separate .jpg or .gif files (pixel size approximately 500x400, 8 cm wide, and scanned at 300 resolution). If previously published figures, pictures, tables, and graphics are used, written permission must be obtained, and this permission must be indicated in the figure, picture, table, and graphic description.
Tables should be made by using the table menu in the Microsoft Word program, the table title should be above the table, justified to the left, and the first letters of the words should be capitalized. Within the table, the text should be written with a line spacing of one space and a font size of 10 points. If there are explanations for the table, they should be written in 9-point font with one line spacing below the table.
The title of figures, pictures, and graphics should be placed below the figure/graphics. The name of the figure/graphic and picture should be left justified and the first letters of the words should be capitalized.

Limitations
Any study limitations should be presented after the conclusion and recommendations section of the main text.

Acknowledgements
Persons and institutions that contributed to the article editorially (statistical analysis, English/Turkish evaluation) and/or technically without fulfilling the authorship conditions should be thanked by specifying their names. In addition, all persons and institutions providing financial and material support during the study and the article's writing should be indicated, and the conflict of interest, if any, should be written.

References
• All references cited in the text must be listed in the references section, and all references listed must be cited in the text.
• Authors should avoid using sources they have not accessed directly.
• Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. Conference papers, personal experiences, and unsupported internet addresses cannot be used as references.

In-Text Citation
References should be numbered sequentially in the text and shown in parentheses. When citing multiple references, separate them with a comma (e.g., 1,2). For more than two consecutive references, indicate the first and last reference numbers separated by a hyphen (e.g., 1-4).
Reference List
At the end of the text, references should be numbered sequentially as they appear in the text, under the heading "REFERENCES."
Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. Conference papers, personal experiences, and unsupported internet addresses cannot be used as references.
Journal names should be abbreviated as they appear in Index Medicus; if not listed in Index Medicus, the full journal name should be written out.
References should be formatted according to the Vancouver style. Attention should be paid to the following rules when writing references.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITY
In terms of scientific publishing standards, manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the criteria of the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
• It is mandatory to comply with research and publication ethics in the articles to be submitted. The responsibility of the articles belongs to the authors.
• Articles should not have been published anywhere before and/or should not be in the evaluation process for publication.
• For the evaluation process to begin, articles must be submitted with the Copyright Transfer Form signed by all authors. The order of signature on the Copyright Transfer Form is considered for author ranking.
- The corresponding author is responsible for the final version of the article on behalf of all authors.

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY

1. Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher
Sakarya University Faculty of Health Sciences, which is the publisher of Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health, is a non-profit public educational institution that pursues public interest. The Editors and Editorial Board of the Journal act with the awareness of the following ethical responsibilities:
• The editors of Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health are responsible for all processes of manuscripts submitted to the journal and are decision-makers without regard to economic or political gains. They are committed to independent editorial judgment.
• They undertake the obligation to publish articles in Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health in accordance with Research and Publication Ethics, to protect the ownership and copyright of each published article and to keep a record of each published copy.
• The editors are responsible for taking measures against all kinds of scientific misconduct, citation mongering and plagiarism.

2.Responsibilities of Editors
Sakarya University Holistic Health Journal Editors (/Editor, field editor/board of editors) are responsible for each article submitted to Sakarya University Holistic Health Journal, including all processes after publication. The responsibilities of the editors of the Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health are as follows:

• To decide independently, considering only the public interest in the decisions made about the journal
• Taking all decisions independently from the publisher and other persons and organizations due to the relationship between the Publisher and Editors based on the principle of independence
• To strive for the continuous development of the journal and to improve the quality of its publication
• To ensure the determination and implementation of journal policies such as publication, blind review, evaluation process, ethical principles
• Ensuring that all published articles are reviewed by appropriately qualified referees
• To protect the copyright of authors of articles published in the journal
• In the process of publishing articles and journals, to take relevant measures regarding intellectual property rights, scientific and unethical behavior, plagiarism and citation gangs
•To update the manual aiming to meet the information needs of author(s) and reviewers
• Keeping the records of each article and correspondence related to the journal in electronic or printed form.

3.Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers
Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health is conducted with the principle of two-way blind reviewing. In this system, the referees do not communicate directly with the authors, and the reviewers send the article evaluation forms, notes on the text and correction requests to the authors through the editor via the journal management system. In this context, the referees who will evaluate the articles submitted to Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health are expected to have the following ethical responsibilities:

• Accepting to evaluate only studies related to their field of specialization
• To conduct the evaluation with impartiality and confidentiality
• Destroying the final versions of the studies they have reviewed after the evaluation process due to the principle of confidentiality, since they can only use the final versions of the studies they have reviewed after they are published
• Refusing to evaluate the article and informing the journal editor when they realize that there is a conflict of interest-union of interest
• Evaluate objectively only in relation to the content of the study
• Not allowing nationality, gender, religious beliefs, political beliefs and commercial considerations to influence the evaluation
• Conduct the evaluation in a constructive and courteous manner in accordance with academic etiquette.
Avoiding insulting, hostile and insulting personal comments
• To report the work they accept for evaluation with the " Reviewer evaluation form" in due time.

4.Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
The publication processes implemented in the Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health aim to develop and disseminate information impartially and reputably. The processes implemented in this direction are directly reflected in the quality of the authors' work and the institutions supporting the authors. All stakeholders of the process (authors, readers and researchers, publisher, referees and editors) must comply with the standards for ethical principles. The author(s) submitting an article to Sakarya University Journal of Holistic Health are expected to abide by the following ethical responsibilities:

• The work submitted to the journal is expected to be original. In case the author(s) utilize other studies or use other studies, to cite them completely and accurately
• Persons who did not contribute intellectually to the content in the creation of the work, not to indicate them as authors
• Explaining the situations and relationships that may constitute a conflict of interest, if any, in all studies submitted for publication
• If the author(s) are asked for information or raw data about their articles during the evaluation process; to be ready to present the expected data and information to the editorial board and scientific committee
•To act in accordance with the Principles of the Declaration of Helsinki in all studies involving the "human" element. In the METHODS section of the manuscript, the authors should state that they conducted the study in accordance with these principles and that they obtained "informed consent" from the ethics committees of their institutions and the people who participated in the study.
• If the "Animal" element is used in the study, the authors should state in the MATERIALS AND METHODS section of the article that they protect animal rights in their studies in accordance with the principles of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and that they have received approval from the ethics committees of their institutions.
• Obtaining "informed consent" from patients regardless of revealing the patient's identity in case presentations, and presenting them in accordance with patient privacy
• If there is a direct-indirect commercial link in the article or an institution that provides financial support for the study, the authors should state that they have no commercial relationship with the commercial product, drug, company... used and what kind of relationship (consultant, other agreements), if any, on the presentation to the editor page.
• If "Ethics Committee Approval" is required for the article, the authors must declare that they have obtained ethics committee approval with the date and number in the "Materials and Methods" section.
• Including a statement in the article that Research and Publication Ethics are complied with
• Not to have the studies in the application process of more than one journal at the same time. Not to submit a study published in another journal to Sakarya University Holistic Health Journal.

Publication/Copyright
There is no charge for the articles to be published in the journal.
All kinds of publication/copyright rights of the articles accepted for publication belong to our journal. The articles' opinions and suggestions are the authors' sole responsibility.
For each article, authors must fill out the "Copyright Transfer and Author Contribution Form" and send it to the journal together with the article.

Journal Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism is the use of others' published and unpublished ideas or words (or other intellectual property rights) without attribution or permission and presented as new and original, rather than derived from an existing source. Self-plagiarism refers to an author's use of portions of previous writings on the same topic elsewhere in their publication without specifically citing them as citations (https://wame.org/recommendations-on-publication-ethics-policies-for-medical-journals).

During the file upload process, authors must upload the similarity report obtained using an appropriate plagiarism program (iThenticate, Turnitin, intihal.net, etc.) to the system together with other files.

Articles with a more than 25% similarity rate are considered plagiarized and rejected.
